Night Ritual For Skin Discoloration

The night ritual for those concerned with discoloration should focus on delivering brighter, more luminous skin while helping to control hyperpigmentation for a more even skin tone.

Cleanse

Cleansing is important to do both in the morning and at night. It will remove all the dirt, oil and debris. During the day our skin deals with environmental pollutants in the air which we need to cleanse away. We also need to rid our skin of our cosmetics, such as sunblock and our waterproof makeup.

Cleanse your face twice. This is called a double-cleanse. Our skin’s naturally sticky sebum is thick, slick, waxy and coats our skin by the middle of the day. 20 seconds can’t get through a layer of oil-based debris on the surface. The sebum is going to stay on the skin preventing our skin care products from doing their job. A cleanse is going to emulsify the debris, dirt and oil on our face but not truly take it off. This is why a double-cleanse is necessary. This is your secret to ultra, healthy, beautiful, clean skin.

For skin discoloration use a cleanser that neutralizes free radicals and other environmental aggressors while binding moisture to the skin. Your cleanser should cleanse, brighten and clarify.

Some ingredients to look for are Lactic Acid which lifts dulling, discolored skin cell to improve surface clarity, Vitamin C which brightens surface spots and prevents future damage and Phospholipids which bind moisture to the skin.

Just use your fingers to massage the cleanser onto your face, neck and decolette. Then rinse with warm water and pat dry with a towel. Do this twice.

Tone

Use a toner to balance the PH of your skin before treating it. Products will penetrate at their fullest this way.

For discoloration use a toner that will strengthen the skin’s natural defense system while natural moisture factors gently condition and hydrate skin.

Look for ingredients such as Vitamin C to lighten and improve skins appearance. Sodium PCA helps attract and bind water to the skin.

Put the toner on a cotton pad and wipe on entire face, neck and décolleté. There are also toners that come in a spray bottle for easier application.

Treat

For discoloration use a high-potency brightening serum every night to minimize discoloration and improve skin clarity. Phytic Acid binds Copper, a co-factor required by the pigment forming enzyme, thereby helping to prevent future discoloration. Hydroquinone fades spots by shutting down production of skin-darkening pigment. Hexapeptide-2 enhances skin’s overall brightness. Glycolic Acid exfoliates to enhance penetration of ingredients for faster results and lifts away dead pigment-darkened cells when they reach the skin’s surface layers.

You can also use a super-treatment twice a week to boost the results. Some of these can instantly brighten, smooth and hydrate skin. Look for ingredients such as Glycolic Acid which exfoliates to accelerate turnover of dark damaged cells, removing dullness and improving skin texture. Vitamin C and Indian Fig protect against free radical damage while enhancing skin clarity and luminosity.

I would recommend using your serum every night. Also once a week use a super-treatment. After the super-treatment, use your toner to balance PH levels to prepare for proper product absorption. Then apply your nightly serum.

Moisturize

For discoloration,  use a moisturizer that nourishes and brightens for more even skin tone. A moisturizer that improves barrier protection and shields against environmental damage and moisture loss is ideal.

Look for ingredients such as Gluconic Acid which brightens to help minimize surface spots. Shea Butter delivers instant hydration that lasts throughout the night. Vitamin C neutralizes damaging free radicals and brightens skin. Phytolipids help to bind water to the skin for maximum hydration. Vitamin A encourages cell renewal.

Using fingers, apply to entire face, neck and décolleté.

Eye Treatment

An eye cream is an essential part of our skin care routine because that area of skin is different than the skin on the rest of our face. The skin on the eyes is a quarter of an inch thinner then on the rest of the face. This skin tends to become dry easier because of the lack of oil glands. This area also needs special products designed especially for that delicate area and it’s never too early to use an eye cream. This area is where we first start to see the signs of aging.

Our treatments that are meant for our face are not meant for the eye area. The ingredients have been measured for the skin on the face, not the thin skin on our eyes. The skin around our eyes needs a lower percentage of ingredients. Using a product on the eye area that's meant to treat the face can cause the eye area to dry out, swell or can even burn the skin in some cases.

For discoloration choose an eye cream that brightens and smoothes to deliver a more youthful, radiant appearance. An eye treatment that maximizes collagen production and skin brightening while smoothing skin and brightening the eye area is ideal.
