The nightly ritual for sensitive skin
is going to be geared towards reducing the appearance of redness and flushing.
The products should minimize discomfort from tightness or sensitivity. The products
should also hydrate and even your skin tone, getting rid of discomfort and improving
your skin’s overall appearance.
Cleanse
Cleansing is important to do both in the morning and at night. It will remove all the dirt, oil and debris. During the day our skin deals with environmental pollutants in the air which we need to cleanse away. We also need to rid our skin of our cosmetics, such as sunblock and our waterproof makeup.
Cleanse your face twice. This is called a double-cleanse. Our skin’s naturally sticky sebum is thick, slick, waxy and coats our skin by the middle of the day. 20 seconds can’t get through a layer of oil-based debris on the surface. The sebum is going to stay on the skin preventing our skin care products from doing their job. A cleanse is going to emulsify the debris, dirt and oil on our face but not truly take it off. This is why a double-cleanse is necessary. This is your secret to ultra, healthy, beautiful, clean skin.
For sensitive skin use a gentle
cleansing gel/cream for reactive skin. It should delicately fortify the skin’s
protective barrier without leaving an irritating residue, and it should rinse
off easily. Your cleanser should soothe and alleviate your existing redness. An
antioxidant-rich cleanser would be ideal.
Just use your fingers to massage the cleanser onto your face, neck and decolette. Then rinse with warm water and pat dry with a towel. Do this twice.

Tone
Use a toner
to balance the PH of your skin before treating it. Products will penetrate at
their fullest this way.
For sensitive skin use a toner that is soothing,
hydrating and will calm redness and sensitivity. Your toner should be a
lightweight mist that helps to create a shield against environmental assaults
and relieves and restores skin while fighting future flare-ups.
Oat is a great
ingredient that works below the surface to interrupt inflammatory triggers that
lead to sensitization, while helping to minimize discomfort, burning and
itching. Aloe can help calm while correcting moisture level imbalances that
can provoke sensitized skin.
Put the toner on a cotton pad and wipe on entire face, neck and décolleté. There are also toners that come in a spray bottle for easier application.

Treat
For sensitive
skin focus on a treatment that will help recondition your skin so that it’s not
as easily irritated or prone to redness and sensitivity.
A great ingredient would be Azelaic acid
which can retexture and hydrate to ease tightness. Goji Berry Extract can help
accelerate the healing of dry, flaky skin and Zinc Oxide and Peppermint Extract
help reduce stinging. Hyaluronic Acid and Glycolipds can improve hydration,
calm irritated skin and reduce sensitivity. Lecithin helps improve the skin’s
barrier function and chamomile Extract and Arnica can soothe and improve
suppleness.
I would suggest a serum or a treatment that does not have to be
removed. Using a product such as a mask that requires you to remove it can
further irritate sensitive skin.

Moisturize
For sensitive skin use a
moisturizer that helps fortify the skin. Use a moisturizer that can help
shield against internal triggers that cause skin stress. Your moisturizer should also help restore a healthy barrier function.
Oat can work below the
surface to interrupt inflammatory triggers that lead to sensitization, while
helping to minimize discomfort, burning and itching. Vitamins C and E are great
ingredients that will combat free radicals that can lead to inflammed and
irritated skin.
Using
fingers, apply to entire face, neck and décolleté.

Eye Treatment
An eye cream is an essential part of our skin care routine because that area of skin is different than the skin on the rest of our face. The skin on the eyes is a quarter of an inch thinner then on the rest of the face. This skin tends to become dry easier because of the lack of oil glands. This area also needs special products designed especially for that delicate area and it’s never too early to use an eye cream. This area is where we first start to see the signs of aging.
Our treatments that are meant for our face are not meant for the eye area. The ingredients have been measured for the skin on the face, not the thin skin on our eyes. The skin around our eyes needs a lower percentage of ingredients. Using a product on the eye area that's meant to treat the face can cause the eye area to dry out, swell or can even burn the skin in some cases.
For sensitive skin hoose an
eye cream that encourages collagen production and helps minimize puffiness. Your
eye treatment should help soothe fragile skin, hydrate and minimize
sensitivity.
Vitamin C is a great ingredient and it can stimulate collagen
synthesis, help fight pigmentation and acts as an antioxidant. Hyaluronic acid
optimizes hydration. Chamomile helps minimize puffiness and oat helps soothe
fragile skin.
