Also, knowing what your client regularly wears will help you know what to expect when it comes to their idea of what too much makeup is.

Cleanse
This ensures there's nothing in between your makeup application and the skin. Excess oil can make the foundation not adhere to the skin.

Hydrate
Properly hydrating the skin ensures the the skin does not suck the water out of your product. When the skin takes the water out of your product it can look dry and cakey.

Moisturize
Properly moisturizing the skin ensures the the skin does not suck the oil out of your product. When the skin takes the oil out of your product it can also look dry and cakey. Also, properly moisturizing the under eye area will prevent product from sinking into wrinkles and looking cakey.

If the skin is properly hydrated and moisturized you will use less product and it will apply smoothly and evenly.
